View Full Version : Hacha FAQ

I suppose it's time to address this issue after many have addressed me on this already. So here is a faq and guideline to follow when dealing with Hacha.
Q. What is Hacha?
A. Hacha is a free program utility that can either split up large files into small ones, or can put them back together again.
Q. Why don't they just post the larger file on the site?
A. Well it has to do with the 2mb max file size limitations of PHP itself. That's just the way it is..
Q. Is there a limit to the size of file we post with Hacha?
A. Yes. The overall file size limit for posting clips is 20Mb.
- Effective 10/04/2004 all clips posted here past this date cannot be over 20Mb in total size. You get 5 uploads per post which can be 2Mb maximum in size so with simple math that's 10Mb per post. Therefore no clip posting should take more than 2 posts to upload the entire clip. Remember if you split a clip it belongs in The Splits forum.
I understand that there are people that love Hacha, and people that absolutely hate it. But please remember regardless of where you stand that our Rules (http://www.tickletheater.com/index.php?page=rules) state that everyone must be polite when participating in this community.
Please feel free to add anything I may have left off. If it's noteworthy I'll edit this post to reflect the official faq/guidlelines.

Well it's good to remind it TT :)
In fact i think that some people cannot really deal with - even if it has been explained thousands times - for example see each cosquillero clip posts : he tells how it works quite clearly -.
Do you have problems using it TT ??

Yes. Effective immediately any new files over 5mb attached to this forum shall be removed. So if it takes more than 1 post to upload a file then it will most likely get canned.

ah well, we can't argue as it's your site and all, but i did enjoy those larger files...

larger files = larger bandwidth = larger bill = unhappy TT
I'm already paying a boatload for the site as it is...thank goodness for the site sponsors we have but it doesn't pay for everything. :(

Is this really a limit? I've seen people talking about larger file sizes on other boards without mentioning this.

That's what I was told when I entered a help thread on vbulletin a long time ago about this. Maybe they changed it, maybe they haven't. I just know people cannot upload more than 2mb here without problems.

Sometimes files just a little above 2 mb 2.1 or so do upload. I was quite happy seeing that files to 5mb could be posted, but it does not work :sigh:.
It's only for clips though.

There are 2 versions rounding of the same program v 1.0 (hacha 2) and v 2.98 (hacha 3). In order to clear some doubts, i show you which is each version and what can does it.
The oldest hacha (hacha 2 or v 1.0) looks so : (see at image "Hacha v1.0.jpg")
The new hacha (hacha 3 or v 2.98) looks so : (see at image "Hacha v2.98.jpg")
The hacha v2.98 (hacha 3) can to join files splitted with previous version (hacha 2 or v1.0), but v1.0 (hacha 2) can't to join files splitted with v2.98 (hacha 3). In any case, if you got hacha 3 (v2.98) you can to join any clip splitted with both versions (v1.0 and v2.98) without any problem. Only hacha 3 (v2.98) can to join a file doing double-click on its icon (the icon of file splitted, that with viking man!). In order to can to join a splitted file using hacha, all parts/chunks/files must to be on the same folder, you can to copy all parts over your desktop and after to do double-click on first part (that with viking man!). Really simple and easy.

Hacha is included in last file of all my posts, so isn't a trouble to get it.
Two questions. First, I have not been able to view WMV files. I've re-installed Windows Media for XP twice with no change. Secondly, do I need to download HACHA each time I want to view something split with HACHA or does the WinRAR 3.3 help me?
cosquillero

Hacha and winrar are differents applications so you can't unsplit a clip splitted with hacha using winrar nor vice versa. Besides if you got hacha in any download you don't need to get it again, you have it already.
Taking a idea from another member, i've created an step-by-step graphic manual for to learn to use hacha, only follow each image attached in its own order (from 1st Image, until 6th Image).

Your answer is just 2nd page, Post #14. Besides hacha 2.98 can to join any file splitted with any version of hacha (old or new).
EDIT: For those who want the last version (3.3 until this date), can to get it just in this thread : hacha 3.3 (http://www.tickletheater.com/showthread.php?t=11444).

Maybe your pc has some wrong, or maybe has viruses. Hacha (any version) works pretty fine, without any error. Could you to post a print-screen of that issue?.

Are you using the Chinese version of Windows (I noticed your location was Shanghai)? I believe there is a problem with Hacha and that version.
gila,
Are you sure you had all the parts in the same folder? If one was missing, the file that got put together may have had errors.

It's a mpg file, and launches in (or tries to launch in) Real Player.
More info: I get the "video for this file cannot be played" message twice, then a message saying "Real Player needs to download new software to play this clip". Then it tries to contact Real Player for the download, but ends up saying "Unable to connect". WTF?

Aha, codec problem, not Hacha problem. First of all, go here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=84358&release_id=227046, and download the top .zip file if you have XP or Windows 2000. Grab the bottom one if you have Win98. This is an alternative to Real Player that I encourage, as it is not as invasive as RP is, and still plays all Realmedia files. After downloading, extract the zip, install the program, and open it in your programs folder after installing. Open the file from within it (E.g. File>Open>Find the file) and see if it plays. If that doesn't work, let me know. Just to reiterate, there is NOTHING wrong with Hacha, this is more likely Realplayer being a bugger, from the sounds of it.

Sure, exist versions of hacha for either Mac classics or Mac OS X too. Mac OS X version can be got from this url : http://homepage.mac.com/julifos/soft/machacha/machacha.sit. Mac classics version can be got from this thread click here! (http://www.tickletheater.com/showpost.php?p=49003&postcount=20).
Regional Options of Win2000 or XP will greatly affect Hacha. For some language set as default, Hacha never work. Better use English(US) as the default language.

Well i don't know nothing about of this issue because i have spanish version of windows xp pro and hacha works fine. I know that some programs interfering with hacha, but again there are lots of programs/applications so is really difficult to set a group of steps to fix any trouble with hacha. The simplicity is the key, while less programs have your PC installed, less possibility of problems you'll have.

I read in an earlier post and in the hacha instructions, that one can copy it onto ones harddrive. How do I do this exaxtly...please treat this as information for the very thick.
I run linux and the windows version of hacha didn't run under wine for me, so after a little experimentation I came up with this. Its a small shell script that reassembles hacha broken up files. It hasnt been widely tested but its worked so far for me. Should also run under OS X, or Cygwin if one was so inclined. The usage is as follows:
dehacha <filename>
where <filename> is the file you get after unhachaing it. So for instance if the hacha files are tickle.avi.0.zip, tickle.avi.1.zip and tickle.avi.2.zip you'd type:
dehacha tickle.avi
Of course this assumes you save the shell script to a file named dehacha. Script follows:
#!/bin/sh
targetfile="$1"
unzipcommand=unzip # change this to what ever command you have that can unzip
for each in "$targetfile".*.zip; do $unzipcommand "$each"
cat "`echo "$each" | sed -r 's/.zip$//'`" >> "$targetfile"
done
Notes for gurus: Assumes GNU-style tools. I don't think its dependant on a any particular shell, but it definitely runs under bash and ksh (the two shells I use most often).

You can copy hacha into your HD like any other program/application, this don't require any especial drill. You can drag-&-drop by example.

Actually, this should only work for files splitted with old versions of Hacha, which does the job the trivial way (just splitting). Recent versions add some complexity, since every part has some more information added (like number of files, some checksum or digest, and so on), which leads your script to failure: the resulting file will no more be good.
A much better way to proceed is to use Hoz, which is an opensource splitter/joiner using the same file-format as Hacha. You can find it on http://hoz.sourceforge.net/ and, if you want, compile it yourself (though the Makefile may need a little editing).

You need to zip each of the files with Winzip, Winrar (or Tugzip, which I don't know aything about), and as you do so, put them into a separate folder, numbering each one. Then upload.

As Ericmartin says, you need to zip each part seperately after you have split the file. Don't change any file names or extensions. You should end up with a set of files with names like clip.0.zip, clip.1.zip, etc., which are then ready to be uploaded :)

Everytime I download the program, I follow all the steps, but it never has once sicne successfuly transferred a Hacha file into a WMV or RM file. It just has this window pop up when I hit the "Pegar Archivos", and says there has been an error.
